God Bless America DIY Patriotic Wreath Rail

I have a super cute project to share with you today! I’m showing you how to make a God bless America patriotic wreath rail project using one of our new printed wreath rails. I absolutely love the way it turned out!

If you’ve been with me for a while, you already know that patriotic creations are my absolute favorite! I love anything with stars, stripes, red, white, and blue. This God bless America patriotic wreath rail project is now a favorite among favorites!

Make Your Own Patriotic Wreath Rail Project

Richard and I are really excited to bring you a new kind of wreath rail! Usually we have rails that are blank and ready to paint. I show you how to paint your own or you can order them already painted by me. Now we have another option! We can print images right onto the wreath rails. That means there is no painting necessary.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to paint. But this opens up a whole new world of design possibilities!

For example, this God bless America image is not something that I could create with paint. The details of the landscape are just beyond my artistic capabilities. When we can take an image and adapt it to a rail, all those details come with it! That makes me so happy and excited. I can’t wait for you to check out all the options that we have available!

Patriotic Decorative Options

For this design, I went with burgundy mesh to bring out the colors of the sign. I also used the rustic version of patriotic colors. Oh you guys, I love them so! You could use a color scheme that is similar to mine or you could go a totally different way.

Bright and bold patriotic colors are always an option. Especially if you already have those supplies on hand. You could also add some fun patriotic pics to your rail to bring in some bling. There are so many ways that you can make this design your own and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

In the video below, I show you how to use deco mesh and ribbons to dress up this fabulous wreath rail. So grab your favorite summertime beverage (probably best to leave the BBQ in the kitchen for now) and let’s get crafting!

Step by Step DIY Patriotic Wreath Rail Instructions

  1. Start by attaching 6 pipe cleaners evenly around the center rail of the wreath rail.

  2. Next, take the burgundy mesh, roll up the end a little and make a ruffle. Add that to the tie on one end of your rail. Then make a poof with the mesh and add the other end of it to the next rail. Continue this until you come to the end of your rail and then leave about 10” and trim the mesh off the roll. Use that extra 10” to make a ruffle at the end of the rail.

  3. Now cut 5- 20” strips of the blue mesh. Use it to make one ruffle for each twist tie except the center one. To do this, roll up the edges a little bit and then scrunch it up the center. Add the center part of the ruffle to the ties.

  4. Next, use the ribbon tail board to cut 5- 14” tails of one of your 2.5” and 1.5” ribbons. Take one of each type of ribbon tail and place one on top of the other. Fold the tails in half and pinch the center together. Attach the center pinch to a twist tie on the end of the wreath rail. Repeat with the remaining ribbon tails and twist ties, leaving one blank for your bow.

  5. Now cut 5 strips of 18” tubing. Make a circle out of each one and then pinch it in the middle to make a bowtie. Add the center of the bowtie to each of your ties minus the one you’ve left blank for your bow.

  6. Next we make a bow! Get out your EZ Bow Maker and your ribbons. Start with a 2.5” ribbon, measure a 10” tail, twist the ribbon and then add it to the bowmaker. Then make a 6-7” loop, twist, add it to the bowmaker. Make another loop on the other side then trim after a 10” tail.

  7. Use another 2.5” ribbon to repeat the same process making four loops this time and your loops a little smaller this time.

  8. Then use a 1.5” ribbon to make 4 loops using the same process and then again with another 1.5” ribbon.

  9. For the final layer of the bow use another 1.5” ribbon to make two smaller loops.

  10. Take two pipe cleaners and twist the ends together to make one long pipe cleaner. Remove your bow from the bow maker and use the long pipe cleaner to secure the center of the bow twisting it off at the back.

  11. Next use the pipe cleaners on the bow to attach it to the rail. Just push the pipe cleaners through the mesh and twist it around the rail. Then dovetail the ends of your tails.

I really love the way this God bless America patriotic wreath rail project turned out! The ribbons are absolutely gorgeous. Burlap and jute are always welcome in my craft room! Remember that, even if you can’t find the exact ribbons I used, you can still use this method to create your own wreath rail. Just choose between rustic and classic patriotic colors and then choose your ribbons to match. It’s easy peasy you guys. I hope you have as much fun with this project as I did!
